Describe what you do at OnPrem.

I develop image processing and data management software for different clients in the media and entertainment industry.

What do you like most about working at the IDC?

I love the challenge and diversity of work we do. I’m constantly learning new skills and being given the opportunity to further develop my knowledge through client projects and internal project initiatives.

Describe an internal initiative you’ve worked on & why it was meaningful to you.

Very early in my career at OnPrem, I had the opportunity to take on an internal development project at the IDC. I built the pantry/office inventory management app that is still being used in our office today. I was given a lot of freedom in how to design and build the app, During that project, I came to appreciate the supportive culture and innovative spirit at the IDC. While it was a huge challenge, it was also a great opportunity to learn new skills, and I was grateful for the guidance I had along the way.

Describe what a typical day looks like for you.

I normally start my day by meeting with the client to discuss the status of ongoing tasks. Afterwards, I’ll collaborate with my team on any issues I may have encountered the previous day. I will generally have a list of smaller tasks, like bug fixes, that I can address relatively quickly so I’ll work on those first. Once I’m done, I normally move on to spending the rest of my day developing a larger feature or update. Occasionally, I’ll spend time in the morning working on interesting internal projects for OnPrem.

What is your advice to recent or upcoming graduates starting their engineering career at OnPrem?

The best thing you can do when starting out is to find good mentors and keep an open mind to advice, instruction, and recommendations. There is so much to learn when starting out, whether its technical knowledge or soft skills, keeping a student mentality will help you excel at OnPrem.
